Introduction to Plantaserve E ®

Plantaserve E, also known as Euxyl® PE 9010 or Preservative 12, is a widely used broad-spectrum cosmetic preservative. It is especially favoured in natural and clean-label formulations due to its paraben-free and formaldehyde-free composition.

• INCI Name: Phenoxyethanol (and) Ethylhexylglycerin
• Typical Composition:
  • Phenoxyethanol: 90%
  • Ethylhexylglycerin: 10%

 Key Features

• Broad-Spectrum Efficacy: Effective against bacteria, yeasts, and moulds.
• Versatile pH Range: Stable and effective in formulations with pH ranging from 3 to 12.
• Thermal Stability: Can withstand temperatures up to 120°C during production.
• Solubility: Soluble in water and alcohol bases; limited solubility in water (~1% at 20°C).
• Appearance: Clear, colourless to pale yellow liquid with a mild odour.
• Usage Rate: Typically used at 0.5% to 1.0%; maximum recommended level is 1.1%.
• Regulatory Compliance: Free from parabens and formaldehyde; compliant with global cosmetic regulations.
• Origin: Synthetic origin; manufactured in Germany.

Usage Considerations

• Formulation Stage: Add during the cool-down phase (below 40°C) to maintain efficacy.

• Safety: Generally considered safe for use in cosmetics; however, always conduct a patch test for new formulations.
